Oops...- Two Shell
A few weeks ago Two Shell shared a great new one off single called "Oops..." that they originally premiered at the London Fashion Week before giving it a proper release. On "Oops...", the elusive dance duo are right in their sweet spot, delivering the kind of overcaffinated, chiptune-flecked 2 step that they've perfecting since the jump. There's a simple four on the floor strut and some blips of heavily-manipulated, pitch-shifted vocals that kick things off, and before long the arrangement locks into a snappy groove that's rounded out by snares that ricochet like a gatling gun and a gorgeous synth arpeggio.
The later 2 elements are woven in and out of the mix periodically, which provides the otherworldly vocals and visceral bass synths more space to shine. Just shy of the 2 minute mark TS tease a drop only to sidestep it in characteristically playfully fashion as they return to the original progression to close things out. "Oops..." is just barely over 2.5 minutes, and as usual, they leave you wanting more. TS remain a rare artist making dance music who are so attuned to its tropes while remaining so committed to subverting them in a way that feels inspired rather than dismissive. Here's to hoping there's more where this came from soon.
