Magic I Want U & How to Teleport- Jane Remover
A few weeks ago Jane Remover returned with a pair of new songs called "Magic I Want U" and "How To Teleport", respectively, and they're the 2nd pair of songs that she's released this year following the great 1, 2 punch of "Flash in the Pan" and "Dream Sequence" a few months ago. Jane remains an increasingly peerless producer whose genre-bending compositions are more ambitious and immediate than the vast majority of her contemporaries.
"Magic I Want U", which is the standout of the pair, unfurls like an emo r&b drum & bass hybrid courtesy of its busy drum programming and slanted, sour melodies that sprawl with a soaring disposition. Grunge guitars eventually enter the fold and begin to build steam before the music abruptly flips to a Miami bass segue that carries the music to a close. The audacity and ambition of the disparate parts is easy to admire on their own, but Jane's shrewd mixing and tight pop instincts elevate the proceedings to heights far greater than the sum of their parts.
"How To Teleport" retains the emo r&b melodicism, but swaps the drum and bass rhythmic foundations for footwork, giving the proceedings an even more propulsive feel. When "How To Teleport" isn't quite as dynamic as "Magic I Want U", it's another compelling showcase of Jane's inimitable compositional approach all the same. Both of these new songs find Jane continuing to write some of the most striking pop music that I've had the pleasure of listening to all year.
