Eden- Baths
A few weeks ago Will Wiesenfeld, aka Baths, returned with a new song called "Eden", which is the 2nd single that he's shared from his upcoming 4th LP, Gut. On "Eden", Will is taking things back to the bubbly, beat-driven exuberance of his debut, Cerulean, but there's a sharper sense of arrangement, a stronger melody, and an overall more pristine sheen to the proceedings here than in the songs that made up that record. Opening to muted, chintzy keys and a steady four on the floor kick, "Eden" slowly rouses to life, but as soon as Will's vocals enter the frame the drums and keys snap into focus, and lock into an infectious groove.
The music moves at a brisk, house-flecked pace with some dazzling synth lines, tight drum programming, and Will's soaring croon propelled by effervescent, multi-tracked harmonies. There are light string flourishes that ocassionally emerge through the mix, but there aren't too many other sonic embellishments that differentiate the music too much from the music he was making during his halcyon days, but everything sounds brighter and more assured, with richer production and one of his strongest vocal leads yet. "Eden" is an extremely promising return to form, and a reminder that few of Will's beat making peers can craft pop music as dynamic and gorgeous as he can.
